Bonny Utility Company (BUC)

The Bonny Utility Company (BUC), established under the 1998 MoU with Bonny Kingdom, provides uninterrupted electricity and potable water to over 15,000 households. Operating five water treatment plants with a capacity of 3,506m³/day and distributing 20MW of electricity, BUC has significantly improved living standards on Bonny Island.
Sustainable Impact
BUC’s progressive tariff model ensures affordability, while its reliable services have attracted more residents and businesses, boosting local economic activity.

Bonny-Bodo Road Project

NLNG continues to actively partner with the Federal Government of Nigeria on the Bonny-Bodo Road Project as part of a public-private partnership. The road will be the first to connect Bonny Island to mainland Rivers State, an achievement of a dream of the founding fathers in the region.
NLNG’s partnership with the Federal Government on the 38km Bonny-Bodo Road Project has achieved over 80% completion, with significant milestones.

The road is being constructed by Julius Berger Nigeria Limited.

Major Bridges:
Opobo and Nanabie Bridges are at 90% completion, enhancing connectivity and economic opportunities.
Road Construction
Over 32km of road is sand-filled, with 6km fully asphalted, improving access and mobility for communities.
Bonny Consulate Building
The Bonny Consulate Building, a replica of the historic 1897 British Consulate, is a landmark project aimed at promoting tourism and preserving Bonny’s rich cultural heritage. The building serves as a one-stop hub for researchers and tourists, driving revenue and showcasing Bonny’s history.

COVID-19 Interventions

At the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic in the country in 2020, NLNG triggered critical mitigation measures in all company locations and the Residential Area within its facility in Bonny.  NLNG also promptly established engagements with relevant stakeholders across various spheres of government to identify urgent intervention initiatives that will help protect its host communities, the state, and the nation from the threat of the virus.

Bonny Zonal Hospital

Established a 24-bed Holding Centre with medical equipment and PPEs worth over $1 million.

Long-Term Impact

Funded the construction of an Infectious Diseases Unit at Rivers State University Teaching Hospital, enhancing healthcare resilience in the state.

Palliative Distribution

Distributed food and medical supplies to over 90 host communities and supported Rivers State with $500,000 in medical equipment.
