The Impact of NLNG In Nigeria

Delivering Value at Home

We believe that energy is only as valuable as the lives it improves. While our reach is global, our deepest responsibility is here, in Nigeria, at home. We have transformed a once-flared resource into a force for national development, creating jobs, reducing environmental harm, and investing in people, infrastructure, and innovation.

Over the years, we have helped move Nigeria forward, transcending energy with definitive purpose.

Our work and vision lives through the impactful projects and programmes we have embarked upon - in the roads we have helped build, the students we have empowered, the ecosystems we’ve helped preserve, in the supply of clean energy for cooking, and the industries we have strengthened.

Powering Education and Innovation

The ongoing Train 7 project is creating an additional 10,000 jobs. NLNG’s commitment to local content is evident in the recently launched NLNG/Bank of Industry N1 billion Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise (MSME) Scheme which offers funding and loans to NLNG vendors and small businesses within our host communities, reinforcing our commitment to sustainable economic growth and empowering Nigerian businesses to thrive.

NLNG’s scholarship programmes have supported over 4,500 of students, from post-primary to postgraduate levels, including Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).

Environmental and Social Impact

The company has also invested in infrastructure, education, and healthcare, particularly in its host communities. Notably, the Hospital Support Programme is equipping 12 teaching hospitals across six geo-political zones in Nigeria with advanced medical facilities and critical infrastructure. In Bonny, the Bonny Community Health Insurance Programme (BCHIP) is providing access to affordable quality healthcare through insurance.

At its peak of construction of its existing trains, NLNG created over 10,000 direct jobs and supported 18,000 technical roles through subcontractors.

Economic Contributions

NLNG has paid over $18 billion in dividends to the Federal Government through NNPC, alongside $9 billion in taxes, bolstering national revenue. The company has also attracted $17.5 billion in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), with assets valued at $20 billion.

By converting flared gas into exportable LNG, NLNG has reduced gas flaring from 65% to less than 20%, monetising resources while protecting the environment.
