Bonny Bodo Road
The N120 billion Bonny-Bodo Road, abandoned for decades, was recently revived through a tripartite agreement between the Federal Government of Nigeria, Nigeria LNG Limited and Julius Berger Nigeria (contractor).
NLNG has committed to providing 50% (N60 billion), with the balance contributed by the Federal Government. Tagged the biggest CSR initiative by a private company in Nigeria, the 34 kilometre road passing through Bodo, Afa, Opobo and Nanabie to Bonny is expected to contribute significantly to the long-term goals of the Federal Government with respect to the development of the Niger Delta region.
This road from Bonny to Bodo Island will consist of three bridges — a 1000 metre bridge across the Opobo Creek, a 640 metre bridge across the Nanabie Creek and a 550 metre bridge across the Afa Creek.
In addition, the Bonny-Bodo Road is expected to open up immense opportunities for rapid socioeconomic development of the area and impact the lives of millions of Nigerians, particularly those from such Niger Delta communities as Bonny, Ogoni, Okrika, Eleme and Andoni.
The project was flagged off by the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, SAN (GCON), in October 2017.
Work has begun in earnest on the road by the contractor, Julius Berger.
Other Projects
Nigeria LNG Limited has constructed ultramodern health centres, provided hospital equipment, and, in some cases, also installed electricity transformers. It has built several kilometres of roads and many schools in several communities in Rivers State and promoted social interaction among communities.
These are in addition to renovation of schools, town halls and sinking of water boreholes. Examples of some of the projects successfully executed in our host and pipeline communities are:
