Press Release - 2006

UNIDENTIFIED ARMED MEN ABDUCT THREE OVERSEAS TECHNICAL SERVICES (OTS) BAKER WORKERS IN BONNY

Three expatriate staff of Baker - OTS were abducted this morning by some unidentified gunmen at Akusugh quarters in Finima, Bonny Island, in Rivers State.

Baker - OTS, a contractor at the NLNG plant, specialises in operations and maintenance services to the oil and gas industry and training of indigenous personnel.

The incident took place at 6:45am when five gunmen flagged down a Hilux truck and seized the three Filipino nationals. The truck was conveying them to work.

The gunmen who came into the island through the Finima Creek fled via the same route towards the open sea. There were no casualties, although there were sporadic shootings from the gunmen.

His Majesty, King Edward Asimini William Dappa Pepple, the Amanyanabo of Grand Bonny Kingdom has contacted Governor Peter Odili to discuss the incident.
Security agencies are aware of the situation and are working towards a resolution.

The Finima Community has criticised the incident. Mr. Gogo Philip Brown, head of Omuso Brown House youths, said the community does not support such methods as a means of solving problems.

No person or organisation has taken credit for the incident.

Nigeria LNG is maintaining normal operations at its plant.
