NLNG Begins Shipment of LPG
Nigeria LNG once more makes history as it begins LPG shipments from its plant in Bonny. LPG/C Berge Clipper, a Very Large Gas Carrier (VLGC) sets sail this afternoon with 40,000 metric tonnes of refrigerated LPG destined for Galina Park, in the United States.
This shipment was sold on spot basis to Vitol S. A of Switzerland. Subsequent cargoes will be sold on a Free on Board (F.O.B.) term basis.
NLNG's three trains will produce 1.2 million tonnes of LPG yearly when plateau LPG production is reached. The figure will climb to 2.2 million metric tonnes when trains 4 and 5 currently under construction come on stream. The plants will also have a capacity to produce 450, 000 metric tonnes of condensate yearly.
NLNG runs an integrated plant in Bonny with the trains sharing common facilities including utilities, storage tanks and loading jetties. The plants LPG facilities, constructed as part of Train 3 expansion, commenced operation in April 2003 and will enable each of the existing trains to process Associated Gas, ie gas which would have otherwise been flared. This has significant environmental benefits and will contribute to the elimination of routine operational flaring of gas in Nigeria.
Mr. Andrew Jamieson, Managing Director, Nigeria LNG Limited is delighted with the progress of the plant and efforts to establish its latest product, LPG, in the international market. He said early completion of the LPG facility and shipment of the product ahead of schedule underscores the company's determination to be a reliable supplier of LPG and its readiness to meet its obligations to all buyers.
Jamieson also assured that NLNG will maintain its world class performance in all areas especially in health, safety and environment.
NLNG is a Nigerian Joint Venture company whose shareholders are the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (49%), Shell Gas BV (25.6%), TotalFinaElf LNG Nigeria Ltd(15%) and Agip International (N. A.) BV (10.4%).
