Nigeria LNG has exported its 100th LNG cargo. The cargo was loaded on board LNG Bonny from the NLNG Plant in Finima, Bonny Island on Sunday 4th February. This cargo, which constitutes a major milestone for the company will be delivered to ENEL of Italy through the LNG receiving terminal in Montoir, France on 14th February 2001.
Since the Company commenced export of LNG on 9th October 1999 it has continually met its delivery schedule to long term buyers in France, Italy, Portugal, Spain and Turkey. The company has also operated its plant at an optimal level, leading to the delivery so far of 6 LNG spot cargoes to buyers in the United States of America.
Andrew Jamieson, Managing Director of Nigeria LNG, said success of the 100th cargo further confirms Nigeria LNG as a major player in the world LNG market, where every buyer wants a secure and reliable source of supply. He also pointed out that the Company’s world-class performance since inception has been an endorsement of the Company’s decision to build a Third LNG Train, due on stream late next year, and develop a fourth and fifth train to come on stream in 2005.
Mr. Jamieson explained that the success recorded so far by NLNG, leading to export of the Century Cargo has been made possible by a committed workforce, co-operative Host Communities and supporting State and Federal Governments.
The Company commenced production of LNG on 15th September 1999 and exported its first cargo on 9th October 1999. Its 50th cargo was exported on 5th August 2000, while the first spot cargo to the United States of America was exported on 25th May 2000.
